The Spending Review confirmed the Coalition Government’s intention to go ahead with the Hounslow Highways Private Finance Initiative. This is a 25 year contract to repair, upgrade and maintain the roads, pavement, street lights and signs.
Mary Macleod MP for Brentford & Isleworth said: “It’s fantastic news that this long-term initiative for much-needed repairs and investment in our local roads and pavements has been given the go-ahead. It shows that the Government is committed to progressing capital investment projects that are so vital to improving the infrastructure of our country. I would like to pay tribute in particular to Cllr Barbara Reid and all those who have worked so hard to get the Hounslow Highways PFI Project to this stage.”
The Department for Transport has confirmed that they will be contacting the Council to discuss further what work is required in order to progress the project. In a statement released on 20th October they said: “As resources are tight, the Government needs to ensure that every pound is spent to the maximum benefit. We will therefore be working urgently with Hounslow Council to establish how we can deliver this project affordably.”
