Local MP Mary Macleod spoke at a well attended Hounslow Pakistan Welfare Association Meeting on Saturday 25th June. The purpose of the meeting was to encourage more people from the Muslim community to get involved in politics.
Mary congratulated them for organising the meeting and said that she thought it was really important to encourage people from all communities to get involved in politics to tackle some of the biggest issues facing our community.
Mary commented after the event: “I welcome the contribution that is already being made by the Muslim community in Hounslow and the enthusiasm demonstrated by events such as this to get more involved in politics. I would encourage everyone, no matter what their age, religion or background, to get more involved as it affects the daily lives of all of us. We have many talented local residents and we need their energy, experience and ideas to contribute to making a difference in the local community.
“There are lots of ways that people can get involved, including voting in elections, joining a political party, giving input into policy, supporting local projects, helping to deliver leaflets, organising fundraising events, becoming a local Councillor or a Member of Parliament. I hope that events like this will encourage more participation from the Muslim community and I would be happy to speak further to anyone from my constituency who would like to find out more about getting involved.”
