Local MP Mary Macleod continues to lobby London Mayor Boris Johnson to allow the Piccadilly Line to stop at Turnham Green London Underground Station. The local MP, who has long campaigned for the move, successfully persuaded the Mayor to discuss the issue with Transport for London (TfL) during a recent visit to Chiswick Community School.
Mary commented, “Turnham Green Station is the busiest station on the Piccadilly Line between Hammersmith and Heathrow, however it is currently only serviced by the Piccadilly line very late at night or very early in the morning. TfL has informed me that the move is not possible due to signalling issues; however I have urged TfL to do more to fully explore the issue and the positive impact that it would have locally.”
Currently the station is served by the District Line and the Piccadilly Line runs a fast train service throughout the day, with trains stopping at the station prior to 6:50 am and after 10:30pm. Mary added, “I understand that it is important to have a fast service from West London to Heathrow, however when looking at the figures I really feel that Turnham Green is a special case. Turnham Green is seeing increasing demands from both commuters and shoppers, it is time to take a fresh look at the issue and I am happy that the Mayor has promised to do so. Much has changed since this current policy was adopted in 1963, I think it is about time we have a timetable that reflects the Turnham Green of today.”
