Local MP Mary Macleod has been promoted to Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport; and Minister for Women and Equalities, Maria Miller MP.

Mary commented: “After the enormous success of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, I am delighted to accept this new role. The Department has worked hard to deliver the best Olympic Games we have ever seen and I look forward to working with Maria Miller and her departmental colleagues in delivering a fitting legacy to these momentous events.”

Newly appointed Secretary of State, Maria Miller MP, also takes on the role of Minister for Women and Equalities.

Mary added: “As the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Women in Parliament and as a long term campaigner for increasing the amount of women in both business and Government, I will look to bring the experience I have on these issues to the Department and work with them to make sure that women play a vital role in shaping our futures.”
