On Saturday 8th June, Mary Macleod MP joined Chiswick residents in Elmwood Road for the annual St Michaels’ Church street party.
The free neighbourhood party, which was paid for with the proceeds from a charity auction in the church, was a great opportunity for Mary to meet with some of her local constituents.
Visitors to Elmwood Road, which was decorated with festive bunting, enjoyed music, a variety of stalls and a free BBQ. Local bands played and many residents took part in a ‘Zumba!’ dance taster session. Party goers also took advantage of free massages by Kathleen Birch, who runs local Beauty and Holistic therapy salon, Image Inspiration
(www.imageinspiration.com). For the children, there were numerous free activities including sumo wrestling, a giant bouncy castle, face painting and T-shirt decoration.
Mary commented:
“It’s great to see St Michael's Church led by Rev. Martine Oborne, organising these kinds of events which really bring the community together. I was delighted to see the local residents of Chiswick enjoying the summer weather with their friends and family. Events such as these are a great opportunity for residents to get to know their neighbours and make new friends in the local community. It was wonderful to be a part of it and I look forward to next year!”
After the Elmwood Road street party, Mary headed over to Acton Green to visit the Bedford Park Festival. Mary browsed the arts and crafts stalls and enjoyed sampling the cakes from the ‘Bake Off’ stand. This year’s Bedford Park festival runs from Green Days weekend on June 8th and 9th to Sunday June 23rd, closing with Festival mass, the Bedford Park open gardens and numerous other activities.
