Mary Macleod, newly elected Conservative Member of Parliament for Chiswick, Brentford, Isleworth, Osterley and Hounslow made her Maiden Speech in the House of Commons on Thursday 10th June, as part of the Poverty debate.
Mary thanked the people of Brentford & Isleworth constituency for giving her the privilege of representing them in Parliament. She praised the beauty of West London – “we have more green parks than anywhere else in London” – and referred to notable residents of the historic constituency.
She paid tribute to the numerous and successful businesses in the constituency: “lubricated by some decades of Fullers’ brewing, we are the silicon valley of West London with some of the most prestigious high-tech, media and pharmaceutical companies, such as GSK, now prospering on Brentford’s Golden Mile.”
During her speech, Mary commented on already delivering on her election pledge to stop the Third Runway at Heathrow. This was achieved in her first week as an MP.
Mary said: “Multi-cultural and cosmopolitan, the Brentford & Isleworth constituency is a harmonious cohesion of communities and an example to the rest of the country.”
