Local MP praises Chancellor’s back to work plan
During an interview with Sky News yesterday morning, local MP Mary Macleod voiced her approval of the Chancellor’s proposal to help the long-term unemployed build up their skills and employability by doing community work.
From April, people still without work after two years on the coalition's Work Programme will have three options if they want to continue claiming jobseeker’s allowance. They will need to do community work such as litter picking, visit a job centre every day or take part in training to tackle problems like illiteracy.
Mary said:
‘I fully support the Chancellor’s new back to work plan. This programme will help those who have been unemployed for a long time return to a daily routine and it will build up their skills so that they can return to the workplace as soon as possible. My mother sent me out to do community work when I was twelve years old and I can attest to the value that experience gave me.’
