Conservative Candidate for Brentford and Isleworth, Mary Macleod, has urged Transport for London (TfL) not to turn passengers away from Gunnersbury Station during peak hours. Mary’s words come after TfL sent an email to local residents last week advising them to not to use the station at peak hours in the morning and evening due to overcrowding.
Mary has spearheaded the campaign for redevelopment at Gunnersbury Station since establishing the Gunnersbury Station Action Team in 2013 as MP for Brentford and Isleworth. The Action Team has welcomed much needed progress at Gunnersbury in recent months with the commitment from Hounslow Council that £637,508 of Section 106 money will be spent on improving the station following repeated calls from Mary and local residents.
However, despite support from TfL for changing the station for the better, Mary has expressed her concern over their recent email to residents. She said:
“The Action Team has been making great progress at Gunnersbury Station so far. TfL has agreed to relocate the maps and signage so that there is more room for passengers on the platform and they have come up with a system to ensure that traffic flows better on the stairs.
“However, advising passengers not to use the station during peak hours is unacceptable. Gunnersbury has become a transport hub for West London in recent years and whilst it’s great to see so many businesses being attracted to the area, local residents should not have to suffer. We need to find a long term solution to radically redevelop Gunnersbury Station – and that’s what the Action Team is committed to doing”.
