Local MP Mary Macleod has secured additional funding for Community Neuro-Rehabilitation Team after lobbying Dr Nicola Burbidge, Chair of the Hounslow Clinical Commissioning Group on their behalf.
Mary was informed by the team of the pressures on their services when she recently visited a support session for stroke sufferers at West Middlesex Hospital. Here they informed her about their concerns about funding for the service, which has been shown to dramatically improve the recovery of stroke and other neurological patients.
Mary said:
“I am delighted to announce that Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust have decided to protect this vital service for the local community. Outreach services in the community like this provide real support to neurological patients’ recovery and allow local people to make real progress in their recovery.”
After contacting Dr Burbidge, Mary received correspondence that confirmed Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust are now recruiting new Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists to support patients’ timely discharge from hospital. The additional team members will also allow for the delivery of rehabilitation for patients in their own homes to maximise their independence.
