Local MP Mary Macleod has praised the Mayor as figures reveal a major reduction in violent crime and youth offences. Mary commented, “Since 2008 we have seen in Hounslow a cut of 37.4% in crime that involves violence against a person, with serious youth violence down by 7.5%. These figures show that the Mayor’s policy of increasing the amount of street patrols has had a real positive impact on local communities.”
“Our police do a fantastic job to make sure that our streets are safe and I am glad that these figures confirm that we are moving in the right direction,” Mary added. “Last week I had the opportunity to accompany one of the area patrol cars and see firsthand how the Metropolitan Police are tackling crime and antisocial behaviour in our area. This week I also met with the Met Commissioner who is determined to reduce crime on our streets.”
During the visit Mary observed local a policing initiative to tackle alcohol related crime and those flouting licensing laws. Mary added, “Alcohol abuse is a major issue locally and I am glad to have had the opportunity to see how the police are tackling it. Over 70% of hospital admissions between midnight and 5am are as a direct cause of alcohol so it was good to see that locally we are tackling one of the major sources of the problem. This is just one example of the sort of effective policing being carried out locally; and a testament to the excellent work of Borough Commander David Bilson and his team”
