Local MP Mary Macleod has welcomed figures showing that the area still has one of the lowest unemployment rates in London.
The figures, published by the Office of National Statistics, reveal an unemployment rate of 3.8% in Brentford and Isleworth, below both the London and national averages. Unemployment as a whole fell by 45,000 in the UK, to 8.2%.
Mary commented: “The economic crisis has been difficult for people up and down the country, but these figures show that Hounslow, Chiswick, Brentford and Isleworth have all got people with the talent and skill to get through these challenging times.”
The news comes in the months following the West London Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair, organised by Mary on the 30th March.
Mary said: “I am delighted to see that unemployment continues to fall in my constituency. I am also very pleased to see the continued success of some of our local businesses, such as EMC2 and Aker Solutions who are recruiting and growing across the constituency.”
“Locally, we are also getting better at attracting new businesses. Metrobank and International SOS have both just moved into Chiswick, and QVC will be here next month. Times have been tough, but I think that the good news coming from the local area is indicative of our strength as a country and of further good news to come”
