TfL to review better off-peak service at Turnham Green

This week, local MP Mary Macleod met with Mike Brown, Managing Director of Transport for London (TfL), to talk about the modernisation of the tube network.

The MP and Mr Brown discussed local transport priorities, including TfL’s plans for new trains, new signalling and 24-hour weekend Tube access across London, particularly in reference to the District and Piccadilly lines – the two main lines serving the Hounslow Borough.

Mary has been running a long campaign to get Piccadilly line trains to stop at Turnham Green station, securing an agreement from the Mayor of London earlier this year. In June, Mary asked TfL to consider stopping Piccadilly line trains whilst Gloucester Road station was closed for repairs.

Mr Brown promised he would ‘look again’ at the prospect of a better off-peak service for Turnham Green, adding that when the upgrade works on the Piccadilly Line were completed, Turnham Green would see ‘almost a train every minute’. The upgrade is scheduled to start in 2020.

“It was good to hear how the Tube network is improving West London’s connectivity. We are going to see a much better service to both the District and Piccadilly line from stations in my constituency in the coming years, with a 24 hour weekend service, new trains and of course, the Piccadilly line finally stopping at Turnham Green!”

“I spoke to Mike Brown about how people in my constituency want to see better transport links as soon as possible. He promised he would look into improving the off-peak service for Turnham Green, which is a step in the right direction”.

When completed, the Piccadilly line will cater for 19,000 additional passengers every hour, with a more than 60% capacity increase. From next year, a 24-hour Friday and Saturday service will be available at Turnham Green as part of the ‘Night Tube’ plan.
