Mary Macleod, newly elected Conservative Member of Parliament for Chiswick, Brentford, Isleworth, Osterley and Hounslow attended the launch of a new peace initiative organised by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Hounslow.
At a ceremony at Hounslow Civic Centre in Lampton Road on the 23rd June, 37 specially branded buses were launched onto routes in Hounslow. The buses are posted with the message, “Muslims for Loyalty, Freedom & Peace,” and are complimented by a website: www.loveforallhatredfornone.org
Representatives of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Hounslow have stated that their aim is to reassert the Islamic principle of peace, and “to counter the extremists who hijack the faith for political ends.”
Mary Macleod MP, who spoke at the launch, said: “I am delighted to show my support for this initiative, which stresses the importance of community cohesion and the need for peace, loyalty and freedom. This is a great way of raising awareness and letting people across the Borough know what Muslims stand for. I also commend the work that Ahmadiyya Muslims continue to do in our local community.”
In conjunction with the branded buses, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is also introducing a leaflet campaign, to be delivered to homes across the Borough.
