Local MP Mary Macleod has congratulated two local gold medallists on their outstanding Olympic successes.
Chiswick resident Peter Reed MBE, who won a gold medal in the men’s coxless fours rowing, was given the honour of a gold post-box outside Chiswick Town Hall. It is the first time since 1874 that the traditionally red post-boxes have changed colour. Champion 5000m and 10,000m star Mo Farah was honoured with a golden post-box in Isleworth, near Isleworth and Syon School where he went as a boy.
Mary commented: “I would like to personally congratulate both Pete Reed and Mo Farah for their outstanding performances at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Their contribution helped push Team GB’s medal count beyond what even the most optimistic thought possible”.
“I think it is fantastic that Olympians from my constituency contributed to the success of London 2012. I hope that these local heroes will inspire a new generation of local athletes who will be looking to follow in their footsteps and win gold for us again in years to come”.
