Local MP Mary Macleod welcomed recent primary school results announced recently. National league tables reveal that the average percentage of pupils in Brentford and Isleworth achieving Level 4 in English was 84% and for Maths was 86%, well above the national average. Mary commented, “These figures are a testament to the hard work of pupils and teachers. With 74% percent of pupils across the country achieving Level 4 in both English and Maths I was delighted to see that in Brentford and Isleworth it is 79%. It is so important that all children leave school with the literacy and numeracy skills they need to make the most of opportunities in the workplace.”
St Mary’s Roman Catholic Primary in Chiswick and Lionel Road Primary saw 100% of pupils obtaining Level 4 in Maths whilst the Blue School ranked in the top 1% in the country with all of its pupils obtaining Level 4 in both English and Maths.
“These excellent results will no doubt add to the pressure that local schools are already feeling over admissions,” added Mary. “There is a pressing need to create more schools places in the area and we must act soon to make sure these places are available. That is why I welcomed the Government’s announcement in the autumn that an extra £1.2 billion will be invested into new school places over the next three years. I raised this issue with the Chancellor personally and he confirmed that Hounslow will receive £13.4 million in basic need funding to help provide the school places we need.”
