Local MP Mary Macleod has stepped up her campaign to give greater housing priority to victims of domestic violence with a letter to the Communities and Local Government Minister Eric Pickles.
Mary commented: “As Hounslow Council review their housing allocation policy I think it is important that we raise awareness of this issue. I am determined to do what I can to convince the Council that they should adjust the policy that denies victims of domestic violence the housing priority that they deserve. This is a big issue locally and one that I feel passionately about, as are the police who I know see this as a serious issue.
“I have written to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to let him know about this campaign, highlighting in particular cases where children are involved or where individuals are currently living in a temporary refuge. We need to convince the Council to support victims of domestic violence and to make the right choice for some of the most vulnerable in society.”
