Unemployment down again in Brentford and Isleworth amongst record falls
Unemployment in Brentford and Isleworth has fallen for the ninth successive month, with figures across the country showing the biggest quarterly fall since 1997.
The number of people claiming jobseekers allowance in Brentford and Isleworth fell to 1807, or 2.5% of the population. There was also a significant fall in youth unemployment, with the claimant count falling to 340, or 2.9% of young people.
Local MP Mary Macleod, who is organising her third jobs fair event with West Thames College in April, said:
“This is welcome news for hardworking people in West London and the country as a whole, and it shows that our economic plan is working. But even though there are now more people in work that ever before, I know some local people are finding it tough. I want to do more locally to help them, which is why together with West Thames College, I am organising the ‘Aspire Skills Show Experience’ in April this year. We’ve seen big falls in unemployment since we started these events and I know they have helped many local people find work, so I would ask anyone to get in touch if they want to find out more”.
According to the independent Office of National Statistic (ONS), in the UK, the number of people out of work fell by 167,000 to 2.32 million in the three months to November, bringing unemployment to 7.1%. The increase of 280,000 people in work is the biggest rise since records began in 1970.
