Local MP Mary Macleod is to call for action on long-standing issues at Mogden Sewage Works in Isleworth, following a Parliamentary Question in the House of Commons.
During the questions, directed to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Mary asked the Minister to meet with her to discuss Thames Water’s management of the site, particularly the odour that affects many hundreds of residents in the nearby area.
Dan Rogerson MP, the Minister in charge of water, resource and environmental management has agreed to meet with Mary soon to discuss these important issues.
Mary had previously invited Mr Steve Taylor and Mr Barry Edwards of the Mogden Residents’ Action Group (MRAG) to a meeting in Parliament so that she could be kept up-to-date as possible with developments at Mogden. Mr Taylor and Mr Edwards explained that the most recent letter from Thames Water regarding the site did not address the issues about which residents are most concerned. Mary decided that she would meet with the Minister instead to push for a solution to these long-running issues.
Mary will raise the specific points about the discharging of the storm tanks directly into the Thames. She will ask the Minister to press Thames Water and Hounslow Council for a proper Odour Elimination Survey to be completed, as well as more odour monitoring units around the perimeter of the site.
Mary, who has been liaising with MRAG over solutions to these ongoing issues, said:
“Mr Taylor and Mr Edwards have been doing an excellent job at raising the issues of Mogden residents with Thames Water and Hounslow Council. It is a shame that so many residents have been affected by these problems for such a long time and I hope that by meeting with the Minister, I will be able to push for permanent solutions to be created and enacted. Mogden residents have suffered long enough and I am happy to see that the Minister is taking this issue seriously.”
