Conservative Candidate Mary Macleod has visited the proposed site for the new Floreat Brentford Primary School with its Managing Director, James O’Shaughnessy.
The school will provide a much needed 60 reception class places when it opens in September this year, and it has already seen the number of applications exceed the number of places available.
Mr O’Shaughnessy took Mary to see the site at Brent Lea Recreation Ground, which will benefit from a multi-million pound regeneration project. The school will occupy one third of the land, with the rest being offered to the community for sports and recreation activities. The site still needs to be approved by the Council’s Planning Committee.
Brent Lea Recreation Ground is a safe area in which children can both play and learn. Mary was glad to hear that two-thirds of the land will be left untouched, for the benefit of local residents.
Mary said:
“It’s exciting to see local parents so interested in a place for their children at Floreat in Brentford. The whole area will benefit from increased investment from the Government’s Free Schools Programme – the most successful expansion programme in recent British history. Given the fantastic use of this land and the promises made by Floreat to maintain community engagement with its new buildings, I am fully supportive of this much-needed new school.
“The next step is for local people to get involved in the consultation process and have a real say on the community space offered at Brent Lea. The deadline is 2nd July, so please do get in touch with the Council’s planning department with your thoughts.”
