Mary joined the Royal Air Force when she was a MP, as part of the Armed Forces Parliamentary Trust, which had been established to help parliamentarians understand defence and the work of the armed forces. She worked locally with cadets, was trained at the Defence Academy and undertook visits across the UK to get a deeper appreciation and understanding of the work of the RAF and the armed forces. This included a visit to Afghanistan, to Camp Bastion to see the incredible work being done by our service men and women whilst in theatre.
